GIRLBOSSwoman in control, taking charge of her own circumstances in work & life. Someone who knows her worth and won't accept anything less. She is not a "mean girl" in fact, she hates "mean girls." She is empowering and inspiring to those around her. She kicks ass!

This is what a girlboss is according to Urban Dictionary (i.e. the most reliable source of information on the Internet). Let me begin by saying that I love how empowering this word is and that I encourage everyone who wants to be a girlboss to be one.

Buuuut, today I want to talk about why 1) you don't have to be one and most importantly 2) you don't have to be one ALL the time. I think our generation is a generation of overachievers - we all want to be successful. We see all these incredible people on social media, living a life they love and, most importantly, being happy. They all talk about how they followed their dreams, how they worked their ass off day and night to achieve what they wanted.

I applaud that. I really do.

I believe it is important to work towards your goals - whatever they are, big or small. But it is as important to have some 'down' time, to have breaks, to not always have your shit together, to be stress-free. We are not machines or robots, we are human beings. And as human beings we cannot expect to always be on top of everything, life gets in the way and a lot of things are out of our control.

The reason why I am writing this is because I have reached a  point where I feel like, unless I am working on my blog, my part-time job or university assignments, I am wasting my life away. This is probably because I have spent the last three years practically dying doing all my uni assignments and revising for exams. Now that I don't have such a packed and strict schedule I can actually chill some days, but I usually end up feeling too guilty and doing some work. After a few months I have realised that taking a day or an evening off (or even a weekend!), is not the end of the world.

It may sound obvious to some of you, but I think I am not the only one who is used to being overworked and sometimes all you need is someone else to tell you that it is okay to chill.

You don't have to be a girlboss all the time, because that's what makes you a real girlboss.
