I cannot be the only who spends money without even realising. ‘I’ll just go for a walk’ and I end up in Topshop buying even more black jeans. ‘Let’s catch up soon’ and I end up going for brunch and getting overpriced avocado on toast and an orange juice that might be made of gold, judging by its price.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably need these following tips to keep your account balance away from the red numbers. You can thank me later.

Stop using Uber. Seriously, stop. I mean it. You know you could perfectly take the tube or the bus instead (or maybe try walking, I’ve heard it’s good for you). So, unless it’s pouring down and the closest tube station is 20min away, don’t even check the fare estimate.

Pack your lunch. I know, who can be bothered to make lunch the night before when you can just quickly stop by Pret or Starbucks. It might seem like it’s not a lot, but it does add up and, at the end of the month, you will realise you have actually saved a decent amount of money.

Write it down. Whether you prefer to use good old Excel or an app like Pennies or Moni, you should always write down what you spend your money on. At the end of the month you can see if you’ve spent a lot on food, clothes, etc and  so you can see what you should be more careful with. It also makes you realise how easy things add up and how quickly money goes.

Use cash. It’s so easy to just swipe your card or introduce your card number online and boom £50 are gone. It’s more shocking having to physically give someone 5 notes of £10 so it’s easier not to overspend. 

Don’t go window shopping. How many times have you been like ‘I’m not going to buy anything’ and you end up with a new jumper and two pairs of new shoes? Whenever you go window shopping you’re bound to find something that you like and that you ‘definitely need’. So, unless you know you really need to buy something, stay away from the shops!
